Operating system is an interface between user and hardware
• Operating system is a software which manages the hardware

Function's  of operating system :-

1) Convenience: A user can use operating system conveniently.

2) Efficiency: is used to access the system resources efficiently.

3) Ability to evolve: An operating system is designed in such a way that it will allow us for effective development testing and introduction of new system function without interfering the service.

4) Through Put: An operating system can achieve maximum through put i.e. number of task per unit time.



Types of operating system :-
CUI                                               GUI

Operating system consist of processors, application, disk, printers, main memory, input and output devices such as keyboard, mouse, monitor, printers.


Computer Hardware : 

Computer Hardware consist of 4 parts:-

1) Hardware: it provides basic system components 
Example: compiler, assemblers, text editor, data base system.

2) Operating system: it control and co-ordinate a use of hardware among various applications for the end user.

3) Application program: it define in such a way in which these system resources can be used to solve the computing problems.

4) Users: People, computers, Machines , etc.

Type of views: 
There are 2 types of  views they are:- 

1) User view: user want convenience, does not depends upon resource utilization.

2) System view: It is focus on resource allocation among different applications for the end users.
